Waterworld-an introduction.

Today and over the coming weeks (posting Mon, Wed, Fri) I will be sharing with you photographs and video excerpts from my environmentally charged photographic narrative, I call WaterWorld. In essence WW, with it’s strange landscapes & medieval, pagan looking characters is intended to be a visual allegory. At it’s core, the series takes an abstract look at the intriguing and complex forms associated with coastal mangrove forests and associated root systems. WW then is a statement referenced to the worlds polluted waterways, and intends to prompt us to consider the moral and environmental consequences of mangrove habitat loss, continued fouling of the worlds oceans and rivers.

My approach is to seek out anomalies within the mangrove ecosystem and adjacent estuarine eco systems, which when viewed through the carefully selected lens (I have chosen one focal length for the entire project- NO PHOTOSHOP RETOUCHING) results in a warped sense of scale and my intention is to create the illusion that we are witness to a medieval world reminiscent of a Tolkien novel. A depleted world where robed tribes fight for survival. The series can be seen in it’s entirety here;
