The Maître d’

Genre: Noir/Quasi-Fiction. Series. The Red Corporation. Title: Untitled #23

This scene is nothing more than a waiter and maître d’ in a restaurant. But to my mind it’s much more than that. The figure dead centre is our protagonist. She commands attention. She has an alluring presence. She is ultimately the Red Corps embed. In my book of espionage and spies she’s the one who ‘listens in! Gathers names. You see at this exclusive club for high ranking corporate executives, she’s has carte blanche to place bugs for her bosses. She’s in control of the process. The ‘situation’. She’s surrounded by shades of grey and tan. The pale tablescloths and off white drapes around the figures act as important compositional counter balances to the angular swathes of darkness. The pointed sliver of white highlight frame upper left hangs like a knife over the scene. A bad omen?
